TILL EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINATED
A Film by Jack Mantis
Premieres 14 February 2021
In June of 2012, Jack embarked on what would ultimately become a 5 year expedition into the unknown.
A story of leaving all to chance and the mystery of serendipity. Defining the importance of letting go, and allowing the voyage to write itself.
Jack's ability to adapt to the ever challenging circumstances of his enviroment is the driving force behind this coming of age documentary.
Covering over 5000 nautical miles and a further 10 000km of untouched wilderness, he allows the viewer a deeper look into the life of a wanderer.
A deeply compelling story of self discovery.

BLOWN AWAY - Directed by Micha Schulze.
Staring - Jack Mantis, Ben Schaschek and Hannes Hafenklank.
An expedition documentary of a four and a half
year journey around the globe by sailboat and
schoolbus.
An intimate look into all the adventures, trials and shared experiences.
And of the wonderful musicians and characters
they meet along the way,

Biography
The Jack Mantis Band formed in Cape Town in 2007. Their music speaks of adventure, travel, humanity, struggles and triumph. This is only something they are able to portray with the brutal honesty through living the touring life. Having focused most of their attention on the United States and Europe, it is a rare and special moment when they gather to step onto a South African stage. Currently wrapping up a largely sold out, 140 - date tour across Germany in support of the Sailing Conductors film release for “Blown Away” ( officially selected for the Ocean Film Festival 2019 )
Jack has always shied away from mainstream media as a means to approach the bands sound without influence. “What we discovered was that music is a bond that builds bridges across unknown expanses. JMB has become a living, breathing, evolving, aspect of our musical union. If we can facilitate a small shift from within our fans, and always be a positive influence to our listeners, then we have the greatest job we could ever have wished for ”, says Jack.
With love songs that make you miss the X you never had, and revolution songs that force you to question the relationship you have with yourself and others, JMB always takes you into unchartered emotional territory leaving the listener feeling a true sense of home, compassion and nostalgia. A living, breathing, evolving, aspect of the art.
Between touring, Jack has been sailing and filming collaborative music videos across the globe for the last 6 years with the Sailing Conductors from Germany. Their first release for the song, 'Radiate' was filmed in 7 countries featuring 20 musicians.
On Radiate Jack says, “We have been filming scenes all over the world for a few years now and have dedicated it to the Sioux people and the plight at Standing Rock”, donating all proceeds to the water protectors cause. Upon the songs release, they had the opportunity to perform it alongside Chris de Burgh at the 30th Anniversary of Fernsehen Garten in Germany to a 6000-strong crowd and a live TV audience of 3 million.
After filming a further five soon to be released collaborative videos with the crew of the Sailing Conductors, Jack and long time friend Ben Schaschek have branched off and begun working on, ‘Beyond Elements’. Launching last year in June the two set sail from the North of Germany towards the North-pole continuing the tradition of creating expedition music, whilst filming and recording musicians along the way.
When it comes to South Africa, the Jack Mantis Band still has it's place as one of the country's top jam bands. When they do find themselves here, they continue to perform on large stages such as Rocking the Daisies, Splashy Fenn, Oppikoppi, Kirstenbosch Gardens and the Paul Cluver Amphitheatre. The past two years has seen them share stages with the likes of Prime Circle, Kahn Morbee (The Parlotones), Ard Matthews, Arno Carstens, Albert Frost , Dan Patlansky and most recently as the support act for Ben Harpers South African tour.
With a history steeped in music and a lifetime spent gaining insight and wisdom the world over, Mantis brings something truly generous to his performances. A sense of common humanity and togetherness. The brotherhood between band members and the sincere heart expressed through their music is tangible. It is undeniable that their vision is to create a conscious shift through their music and to hold a space for meaningful shared experiences.
